Things to Remember for a Swim Meet
Be there early: if your meet starts at 8:30 a.m., check-in will be available prior to the beginning of warm-up for each session (warm up for morning sessions is usually 7:30 a.m., so check-in would be open from 7:15 - 7:45 a.m.). Check-in closes 15 minutes after the start of warm up for each session (7:45 a.m.). Check-in is mandatory, if you miss check-in time, your swimmer will not be able to swim (these are Michigan Swimmer rules).
Afternoon is basically the same, if meet starts at 1:30 p.m., then warm- up will be at 12:30, check in will be 15 minutes prior to warm-ups and 15 minutes after warm-up starts, so check-in times would be 12:15 - 12:45 p.m.) Again, check-in is mandatory and swimmers who do not check in may not swim.
Check-in is generally located in a hallway near the school's Natatorium, posted by club on the wall, there will be a highlighter, find your child’s name on our club list and highlight their name with all their events. If you are new to meets, ask anyone - there are always sponsoring club representatives there to help.
Your child will then be directed to the pool deck. Parents may not accompany child to swim deck. Instruct them to find their coach. Often, the sponsoring club will have representatives that can help younger kids find the coaches or other team members.
Bring snacks: four hours is a long time and kids get hungry. There is generally a concession, the kids may also bring snacks in their bag to the pool deck.
There is $5.00 charge per event for swim meets, i.e., if your child swims 4 events on Saturday and 4 events of Sunday, your account will be charged $40.00 along with your dues for the month following the event. So if the event is in October, the meet fees will be charged to your account along with your November dues. If you do not show up for the meet, you are still responsible for the charges as the club pays them up front and they are not reimbursable to us.
If you have any questions, please ask the coaches.
